NSW: Noeline Brown to contest state election

SYDNEY, Dec 2 AAP - Former Blankety Blanks star Noeline Brown today promised to use her
comedy talents to win the seat of Southern Highlands for the ALP in the March state election.

Ms Brown, who became a 1970s icon starring on the Naked Vicar and Mavis Bramston Show,
announced her bid for parliament today.

She conceded unseating the National's Peta (Peta) Seaton, who holds the seat by 11.6 per
cent, would be a difficult job but said her high-profile and humour would help her campaign.

"If I can bring that into the campaign I'll certainly be doing it, I don't mean to
trivialise it in any way because it is important but I want to have a bit of fun and I want
everybody else to have a bit of fun too," she told reporters.

Ms Brown said she was already working on her Peta Seaton jokes.

She said she had always been a Labor supporter and had been involved in the "It's Time"
campaign, "jumping up and down next to Gough (Whitlam)".

New South Wales Premier Bob Carr also announced preselections in a number of other country
seats being targeted by Labor -- Gerard Martin for Bathurst, Neville Newell for Murwillumbah,
Peter Black for Murray-Darling and Michael McManus for Burrinjuck.
