QLD: Gold Coast police raid nets large drug haul

By Chris Herde

GOLD COAST, Aug 16 AAP - A weekend raid on the home of a 65-year-old Gold Coast man netted
police a substantial amount of heroin, almost $30,000 in cash and other unlawful property, the
Southport Magistrates Court was told today.

John Adamic, 65, of Labrador, faces 10 charges relating to the possession, supply and
trafficking of heroin between October last year and yesterday.

The court was told police found a number of plastic bags in the house and in Adamic's
pockets which contained more than 150 grams of high-grade heroin.

They also allegedly found two separate cash amounts of $501 and $28,410 in his dryer, two
handguns, including a .22 calibre pistol, and a range of other stolen or unlawful property.

In asking for bail, Adamic's solicitor, Chris Nyst, said his client had a heavy addiction
to heroin which he picked up in his late 50s while serving time on a prison farm.

He said Adamic and his wife were trying to get off drugs and he was unlikely to reoffend if
he was on bail.

"He is a drug user who ... is used by others who were perhaps smarter and more ruthless
than he," Mr Nyst said.

In opposing bail police prosecutor Sergeant John Fisher said Adamic had prior drug
convictions and was imprisoned for seven years in 1991 on drug trafficking and supply charges.

Magistrate Trevor Pollock refused bail and remanded Adamic in custody to reappear at the
Southport Magistrates Court on August 30.
