PALMISTRY; The science of skin and intuition

Despite her phony accent and even phonier smile, television's Madame Clio has always intrigued me. While I laugh at the goony testimonials and pity the poor fools who spend their money on Clio's "amazing visions," part of me wants to call.

It's the same thing that drives people to read horoscopes, play fortune-telling card games and sometimes watch that weird show about communicating with the dead. It's the idea that there is some intangible information source that certain people can tap into and reveal to the rest of us. Mostly, I think we enjoy inexplicable, seemingly legitimate personal assessments performed by strangers. It's egoistic and creepy, and it makes us think they have …
