POWELL, DOLE RUN NECK-AND-NECK IN NEW YORK POLL.(CAPITAL REGION)

ALBANY When it comes to who New York Republicans want as their party's presidential candidate, Colin Powell is in a statistical dead heat with Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole, an independent poll reported Thursday.

Of 233 Republican voters questioned, 34 percent favored Powell for the GOP presidential nomination while 31 percent opted for Dole. Pat Buchanan was at 6 percent, with 19 percent undecided.

The telephone poll by Connecticut's Quinnipiac College was conducted from Thursday of last week through Tuesday. Given its margin of error among GOP voters of pluas or minus 6 percentage points, Powell and Dole …
