Qld: Munchhausen's mother fights her conviction

A Queensland mother jailed for seven years for torturing three of her children has
appealed against her conviction.

A Brisbane District Court jury convicted the 35-year-old Gold Coast mother of four
last June of torture, unlawful wounding, and administering a noxious substance between
1996 and 2001.

It was alleged she suffered from Munchhausen's Syndrome by Proxy.

The syndrome involves drawing attention to yourself by consciously deceiving others
into thinking a loved one is ill.

The woman's barrister BRETT WALKER has argued in the Queensland Court of Appeal today
that the jury who found her guilty was unfairly prejudiced by irrelevant evidence from
medical experts.
